Someone left the cake out in the rain…

I took one of the 7 dwarfs (actually a dear friend) to the beach on Saturday. I thought I was taking “Happy”, but as it turned out, I had “Grumpy” with me. It was a bright, sunny, 72 degrees (F.), with a nice cool breeze. Perfect weather!

“Happy” wanted to go to Smyrna Dunes Park, which is the only dog friendly beach within a 100 miles of us. Not that she planned to take her dogs there; she just wanted to check it out. I reminded her that the only way to get there was to take the causeway over to New Smyrna Beach.

The causeway would mean bumper to bumper traffic. Plus, if you manage to get to the park, you’re on the river side of the little peninsula and would have to walk about a mile to get to the Atlantic side. Walking, doesn’t make “Happy”, happy; bad knees…

New Smyrna Beach is just south of Daytona, where…

Once “Happy” considered the throngs of people between her and her destination, she chose to reconsider her adventure. Basically, she told me to figure out where we could go, because it was too nice to sit at home when the weather was beautiful.

I chose to drive us to a more accessible beach at Port Canaveral. There are plenty of restaurants, and a multitude of deep sea fishing boats that go out of the port, people fishing, as well as cruise ship terminals, e.g. Disney, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, etc. If you’re into T-shirts, Ron Jon’s has a store at Jetty Park, which is on the beach side of the port.

Once we arrived at the Port, “Grumpy” appeared. I don’t think my friend really appreciated being at the beach. She mentioned that her idea of a fun outing would be walking on a nature trail in the woods. Go figure… that’s when the cake started melting.

  1. I would love to ship her up there for a few days to cheer her up! The weather was beautiful, but the water is still cold, about 68 degrees. Only the hale and hearty ventured into the surf. It was a great day to be at the beach 🙂

    1. Thanks Pam! I’ve probably driven by that area many times and didn’t realize there was a dog friendly beach there. Grumpy and I will have to check it out 🙂
